    Website Design

‘Design is never ending…’ and that’s true, but where do you stop? Do you stop when you like the look of the images and layout, that must mean there isn’t any more development to do, right?

Wrong, just because you like it doesn’t mean to say somebody else will, and it certainly doesn’t mean that it will turn your market on. The best way to find out is to create something then show it to someone and gauge their reaction. If they don’t like it you change it and present it again. This is what you should do with your website, get a few pages up there, gets some feed back and then improve and expand.

Anybody can design a website, the tools to do it are readily available and relatively cheap. If you want to try it, go right ahead, be aware however that finding that right balance of images and layout may take you a long long time, ‘Design is never ending…’ remember. The secret isn’t knowing when to stop it’s knowing where to begin. It’s knowing how to research the design trends of a market and pick out the best bits, it’s knowing how to melt those elements into the clients existing style. It’s knowing how to collect the feedback to improve the whole.

Design isn’t just visual, it’s far more than that, this is why design professionals are used. While it might seem expensive in the short term, in the long run you can’t afford not to if you are serious about your website.

Why does anyone ever need a professional? You might be able to lay bricks, but would you trust yourself to build a house? You might be able to change a wheel on your car but would you ever tinker with the engine?

It’s nice to have a go at things yourself, and it’s probably essential that you do because you might be good at it! If you find you have a new talent you could save yourself some money, but if you can’t turn your hand to it or you just don’t have the time, then it’s time to call a professional.

    SEVEN TOP TIPS

    1. Get your copy ready, logo, photographs and text.
    2. Meet with the designer and give them a full brief.
    3. Don’t over estimate what you need as the price will reflect this.
    4. Get a written quote, read it through and make sure everything is included.
    5. Make sure the designer is aware of the W3C standards and can design your site to be compliant.
    6. Look out for search engines specific to your trade or market place and register your URL with them.
    7. If your business is dependent on search engine placement get your URL registered sooner rather than later (it can take up to 6 months to be included in Google results) or consider an Adwords campaign (or similar).

Get a quote, then compare it against your own time and how long you think it will take for you to do it, if your time is better spent elsewhere possibly making more money than it costs to pay the pro… then pay the professional.

Contact us to discuss the options.
