Why do I need a professional web designer?

Why does anyone ever need a professional? You might be able to lay bricks, but would you trust yourself to build a house? You might be able to change a wheel on your car but would you ever tinker with the engine?

It’s nice to have a go at things yourself, and it’s probably essential that you do because you might be good at it! If you find you have a new talent you could save yourself some money, but if you can’t turn your hand to it or you just don’t have the time, then it’s time to call a professional.

SEVEN TOP TIPS

  1. Get your copy ready, logo, photographs and text.
  2. Meet with the designer and give them a full brief.
  3. Don’t over estimate what you need as the price will reflect this.
  4. Get a written quote, read it through and make sure everything is included.
  5. Make sure the designer is aware of the W3C standards and can design your site to be compliant.
  6. Look out for search engines specific to your trade or market place and register your URL with them.
  7. If your business is dependent on search engine placement get your URL registered sooner rather than later (it can take up to 6 months to be included in Google results) or consider an Adwords campaign (or similar).

Get a quote, then compare it against your own time and how long you think it will take for you to do it, if your time is better spent elsewhere possibly making more money than it costs to pay the pro… then pay the professional.
